The DESDEMONA .. .
..
Keep sweet and holy
and remember to laugh
Your serious nature can make
you glum, even morose
All sorrow carries its own joy
though often born deep
Although we do defend the truth
the truth needs no defending
There are many voices in the world
some strong and absorbing, more unheard
Stand on the ground of the truth
that you find is sure and rejoice!
Make your choices and leave
your worries with God
For God cares about you
Get into God and get into the world with God
Be active, be happy, be strong
and when the light fades
and the stumps are drawn
Retire to God’s pavilion
and take refreshment
You will bat again
and bowl
Total salvation, though immediate
takes time to work out
And time belongs to God
for God is eternal
A spiritual mind is a free mind
Do not keep a rigid mind
Relax, the Spirit comes as easy
as we breath
Life is for living and giving
not only receiving and believing
And at the day’s end
you may smile and be assured
You cannot change the world
except by changing the world in you
Rejoice!
..
Even so, come Lord Jesus, come quickly ~ amen!

Authors Note:- I found two old journals of verse that I wrote in the 1980’s during my thirties and even younger and I was struck by their freshness and minimalist naiveté.
I have enjoyed reading them, almost as though they were written by someone else. They speak of aspirations, of faith and hope which is what I believe we all need right now. There is a nice Kerouac naturalness about them too so I’m going to put them here on my site for people to read and make their own mind up about them. Catalogued and Categorised – THE LOST JOURNALS 1980’s
Also, I am reminded of the great wordsmith and troubadour BOB DYLAN, a personal mentor and inspiration to me, who has said that on reading the early songs he wrote back in his twenties from albums like the Freewheelin’ Bob Dylan – that he doesn’t recognise the person who wrote them anymore. Of course Dylan is in fact the supreme enigma and says a lot of stuff but then we all do, don’t we?
